Who is Susanne Jones?

Susanne Jones is an internationally exhibited, award-winning fiber artist, curator, author, and teacher. Raised in the Washington, DC area, a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Maryland, Susanne taught third and fourth grade in Fairfax County, Virginia. Her creativity led her to a second career as a fiber artist. In 2015, she issued her first fiber art challenge, Fly Me to the Moon, to honor the Apollo astronauts, missions, and all things lunar. Her call went global, attracting artists from eight countries and resulting in a juried collection of 179 fiber art pieces that toured the US and Europe. Susanne authored a book about the collection, Fly Me to the Moon: An Art Quilt Journey, published by Schiffer Publishing in 2017.

Her second call, HERstory: A Celebration of Strong Women, went out in 2016. Artists from seven countries created an exhibit of 107 fiber art pieces, which is traveling across the United States and was exhibited in New Zealand in October 2019. The book about this collection, HERstory Quilts: A Celebration of Strong Women, was published by Schiffer in 2018. Susanne’s third exhibit, OURstory: Human Rights Stories in Fabric, premiered at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in November. The book was published in October 2019. Articles about Susanne and her collections have been in Machine Quilting Unlimited, Quilting Arts, and Patchwork Professional magazines.

Susanne has a daughter and a son and a grandson.
