Who is Colette Dumont?

Born in East-Angus, a city in the province of Quebec Canada, Colette Dumont, who currently lives on a dairy and maple syrup farm, began sewing doll clothes on a treadle machine at the age of five. By her mid-twenties she was making and altering clothes as a business. Her interest in quilting began while watching Quilt in a Day with Eleanor Burns in the 1980s. Colette was impressed with Eleanor’s techniques and a tool called the rotary cutter; which she also found very useful and began using in her own business. Running a full-time business offered little free time for making more than quilts for the children.

After a ten-year pause Colette decided she wanted to get back to creative sewing and especially quilting. In 2010, armed with a newly purchased BERNINA 830 and her other industrial machines she signed up for TheQuiltShow.com to learn as much as possible about craft. Colette began making small sample quilts as a way to test out the techniques she learned while watching the shows. It was in 2014 that she submitted her first quilt, Peaceful Peacock, to the Vermont Quilt Festival and won two awards; she was hooked.

Soon more awards followed including 2 quilts that won Best of Show awards:

By 2015 she had remarried and is now living on a 2200 acres of land, 350 milking cows dairy farm and maple syrup inside Quebec, Canada. After a long day’s work on the farm Colette still makes time for and finds the entire quilt making process, whether it’s sewing, selecting fabrics, doing embroidery or beading, to be very relaxing. She is known for and loves using thousands of seed beads and crystals in her quilts. Her motto is to think about quilts, design quilts, make quilts…repeat.
