Who is Cindy Wiens?

Hello, my name is Cindy Wiens. My maternal grandmother was a seamstress. She made one or two quilts, but what I remember most about her were her dressmaking skills. I like to think I inherited my love of sewing from her. In high school and college, I made most of my own clothes, mostly out of necessity because it used to be so much cheaper to make than to buy. After I got married, I left sewing behind and embraced a lot of other things—needlepoint, cross stitch, china painting, scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting—you name it, I probably tried it. But nothing ever really “stuck” for very long.

Coming from a rich heritage of quilting in my Mennonite Brethren background, about 30 years ago I thought it might be fun to give quilting a try. From that very first quilt, I knew I had finally found my true passion.

I love nearly everything about quilting--dreaming about design, playing with color, and the tactile nature of playing with fabric.

About 15 years ago I started making more of my own designs and working primarily with solids rather than prints. I enjoy the adventure of looking at seemingly mundane things—floor tile, a beach towel, a plaid shirt—and then using those things as a jumping off point for a beautiful quilt.
