Who is Cathy Miller?

Cathy Miller is a quilter and a musician! Some of Cathy's quilts have received recognition as well as her music. In 2000 she received a "Best of Show" at the Fred's Pass Rural Show in the Northern Territory of Australia for "Bali Stars". In 2003 her quilt "Buddy and Strider Around Australia" was accepted into the Quilt Canada juried show in Fredericton, NB. In 2004 she received a second-place ribbon at Victoria Quilters' Guild's spring judged show for "Geese from the Garbage". In 2011 "Insanity", her miniature quilt made of 1/4" hexagons was accepted into the Houston Quilt Festival "World of Beauty" show in 2011.

Cathy Miller as Musician Cathy, is a guitar player, singer and songwriter. Over the last 30+ years of her career, Cathy has performed at hundreds of folk festivals, clubs, and concerts from coast to coast in Canada. She is known for her upbeat performances, which have made her a favourite at many events. In 2000, she was recognized in Australia, where she was awarded a national songwriting Special Merit award by the Australian Heritage Commission. She released this song on a CD single called "Grand Old Duchess". It was named by Ian McNamara (ABC Radio) as one of Macca's "Top 10 Songs of 2000" in January 2001.

In 2010 two of her songs were used in the documentary "Stitched", which followed three art quilters - Caryl Bryer Fallert, Hollis Chatelain and Randall Cook - as they prepared for the Houston Quilt Festival.

The same year, her song "12 Step Plan for Quilters" was used in the audio tour of the Quilt show at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England.

Cathy as Teacher Being a daughter of teachers means Cathy's ability to help students understand and learn are in her DNA. 3 For 30 years she has been an accomplished singing teacher, also dabbling in teaching songwriting and -- very occasionally -- guitar. Now, she's also set her hand to teaching quilting. "It's a great way to get to know people, and I love watching students learn to step beyond their comfort zones", says Cathy. Being a creative person in many ways, Cathy is never interested in "cookie cutter" workshops, preferring to encourage the creative spark in each and every class.
